Quiet answers.

Who does Art Elfouly cater to?+

Anyone working seriously in the creative field — painters, sculptors, photographers, filmmakers, musicians, writers and interdisciplinary artists. Emerging and established practices sit at the same table, and duo artists working as a pair are welcome to apply together.

How long is a residency?+

Residencies run from two to four weeks, held within our spring and autumn seasons. Longer stays simply lengthen each phase of the week — the house prefers depth to pace. English is the working language of the residency.

How does the application round work?+

Selection is made together with an advisory council of practising artists and curators who know the ethics and aesthetics of the house. We want to understand who you are and what you intend to work on while you are with us, so please share a portfolio, website or Instagram account alongside your statement. There is no application fee.

What is included?+

A private bedroom, a private studio chosen around your project, all meals prepared by the house chef, private studio visits, evening masterclasses and an optional open studio at the close of the residency. Transfers from the nearest station are arranged for every arrival.

Is Art Elfouly a public institution?+

No. We are a private, independent residency that receives no external funding. Income from the estate and its hospitality is reinvested into artists' projects, which allows us to support a limited number of funded places each year.

Can I get funded for my stay?+

Many governments and foundations offer grants that cover artist residencies. If you apply for one, we are glad to assist — including an official letter of acceptance where your funder requires it.

May I bring a companion?+

Yes. Tell us in advance and we will prepare the room and any extra bedding so that everyone is comfortable. An accompanying guest is charged at sixty percent of your own rate.

How does one arrive?+

The estate lies roughly three hours from Paris, twenty-five minutes from the nearest station by private car, and is equally reachable from Charles de Gaulle and Orly. Every arrival is met.
